About Upper Arlington Crew

UA Crew is a fun, inclusive team sport that challenges the mind and body. We pride ourselves on being a supportive, family environment, where everyone gets involved and becomes part of "the crew". We are a club team in the fall and a scholastic team in the spring (through UAHS), but all 9th-12th graders that want to participate are welcome to come out for either or both seasons each eligible year.
"Novices" are anyone who has not rowed at least one year in the sport. "Varsity" are anyone who has rowed for one year or more.
While everyone rows, individuals are placed in competitive boats based on their individual erg times (rowing machines) and are tested multiple times per season to determine boat placement.

UA Crew rows both 8+ (8 seats with a coxwain), and 4+ (4 seats with a coxwain) at most regattas. On occasion, a 2- boat will be raced.

The team travels to all regattas together by charter bus and gets to bond as a team and experience independence from their parents, under the watchful eyes of our volunteer chaperones. Parents are welcome to attend all regattas to cheer on the team and get to see beautiful parts of the region in all sorts of weather (rain, sleet, snow and sun!).

As an organization, Upper Arlington Crew, Inc. (UA Crew, Inc.) is a not for profit Ohio corporation exempt from federal income tax as a 501(c)(3) organization. The purposes of the corporation are:
  • To provide athletes and coaches with the proper equipment and financial resources to field a competitive crew team;
  • To raise funds to cover capital expenditures and operational expenses;
  • To assist and provide support for the Upper Arlington High School crew program;
  • To own and maintain any assets acquired;
  • To be a part of and support local and national rowing organizations; and
  • To promote the Upper Arlington High School crew program in the community.
The corporation currently owns more than $350,000 in assets – boats, oars, launches, cox boxes, safety equipment, motors, etc. – and is more than a booster organization. Running the organization in a fiscally sound manner, acquiring and maintaining equipment and facilities, and planning for the future requires the active support and involvement of all rowers and parents. The responsibilities are many, but when everyone does at least a little, no one becomes overwhelmed. Without the support of the parents, there simply would be no crew team!

The organization is managed by its Trustees, Board and Coaches.
